perfumes
the construction of perfumes is pretty interesting! every perfume is a unique combination of different notes which all come together to create the overall scent. the notes are broken down into top notes (you smell this immediately upon application, and they evaporate quickly), middle notes (the middle part of the perfume), and base notes (longest lasting, underlie the whole perfume). fragrantica is basically a wiki which has a breakdown of pretty much every perfume & what notes are present in them, and that sort of detail is fascinating to me.
for instance the notes in britney spears's fantasy are as follows:
and the breakdown of top/middle/base notes, the "perfume pyramid"it's very fun stuff! i'm having a lot of fun researching the perfumes i already own, as well as trying new ones from samples or in store & figuring out what i like and don't like.
Perfume | Details | My notes |
---|---|---|
Fantasy Britney Spears | sweet gourmand & smells delicious, like cupcakes, especially after the fruity kiwi smells dry down. a fave | |
Purr Katy Perry | smells so fruity and berry fresh, almost tropical and peachy. definitely a fun teen girl scent but has some flowery elements that make it just a bit more sophisticated than just sugary. i wore this a lot in high school lol | |
Jimmy Choo Blossom | smells very juicy. very sweet and fruity, but too strong and sickly sweet for me. | |
Cloud Ariana Grande | i cannot explain to you how obsessed i am with this perfume. i straight up made it into pixel art for the bg of this page. i've been wearing it nonstop since 2023. it just smells SO SWEET AND TASTY AND DELICOUS. idk how to even explain it but it smells so good. this is the definitive what do i smell like. it's actually deranged how much i like the smell of this perfume i'll straight up sniff my shirts and be like IT SMELLS SO GOOD. initially it's a bit harsh and synthetic but after a while it just smells so sweet and yummy. i'm so incoherent but it's my favourite. | |
Cloud 2.0 Ariana Grande | this one i can sort of explain but only that it's like cloud but if it smelt more edible and like tasty praline. it's allegedly "intense" but i don't think so, it's a bit more florally too and less synthetic. |
other perfumes i may one day list here: Anais Anais, J'adore, Intimately Beckham for her, Demeter (Watermelon Lollipop, Paperback, Thunderstorm, Rain, Wet Garden), Fantasia Mermaid, Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato, YSL Black Opium, Marc Jabcobs Perfect, Mmmm..., Idole Nectar
wtb/sample: Giorgio Yellow, Mor, Girl of Now Elie Saab, Italica (2021) Xerjoff, Blackberry Lily The 7 Virtues, Roasted Green Tea J-Scent, Marc Jabcobs Perfect Intense
random note about me: in the same way some people are really sensitive/averse to certain textures, or flashing lights, etc, smell is my most sensitive sense. i easily get headaches from perfumes i hate, i unconsciously breathe shallowly am always ready to hold my breath from smelly bins or smoke when i'm in public places, i need to shower after coming home from people's houses bc i can't stand smelling like their house, and i bring my own pillowcases when i have to sleep elsewhere. and on the other end i can quite literally just sit around and sniff a perfume over and over like a cocaine hit lol
<== go home.
